REUNION TRIP - Day 7

Sunday, a day of rest and relaxation. The same applies here in the Land of Smiles. You can't run 24/7. Well, you can but  would you live to tell the story? Personally, I chose to just kick back around the hotel, watch a little TV and work on this thing you are reading now. I also had been deliberating on making a trip to Bangkok and making  some quality time with my girlfriend, Nit. After talking to a few of the guys and getting their opinions, I decided that I would go to BKK on Monday afternoon. Nit and I needed to talk about the upcoming birth. I needed  to arrange and insure that she was getting good prenatal care and was also eating properly.

I should mention that Gene Ponce and Dan Banes sneaked into town on Saturday in time to make the BBQ and were staying  through Monday as well. It was great to see Gene and to meet Dan. Gene has developed an interesting sideline here in LOS. He has an extensive database of former military members who served in Thailand and helps to  reunite Amer-Asian children with their long lost American fathers. He has had some success at this and some of the stories he has to tell will bring tears to your eyes. They brought tears to the eyes of this hard old  fart. Dan Banes is an American currently in Thailand trying to find his old tilak (girlfriend) and the child they had together.

Since we were able to get on base in the midst of the first week, it seemed like all the  pressure was off of everyone and the "itchy feet syndrome" took over. The guys were developing the likes and desires that fit their personalities and were going in different directions. Especially since we had  not had a second strategy meeting to set an agenda for this week. No sweat G.I., can do easy. Some guys went shopping, others sightseeing, a couple looking to make business connections. Some, if not all of us, realizing  just how much this place means to us both as a place where we went to war, but also as a peaceful gentle place and is nothing like we remembered if you had not been back here in the last 25 years.

Nonetheless, I think  we all found interests and hobbies here and I am not referring to the infamous nightlife of Pattaya. To say that a good time is being had by all is an understatement. And since this was a relaxing day with nothing on  the agenda for me, that will be it for this installment unless someone wishes to share details of their "soapy" adventure. In which case this becomes a males only, restricted reading day…NOT!

See you Tomorrow
